Chicken Compass

Chicken Compass is a practical tool to measure the hen’s welfare. A flock is visited 4 times per year, during which time six categories will be scored (housing system, enrichment, skin and feathers, individual examination, behavior and red mites) and its results are presented in a hexagram. In this way, one can see straight the flocks strengths and weaknesses. For (further) optimizing the welfare practical management advise is given.

This could be, for example: provision of enrichment material, red mite control measures, or advice on how to diminish breastbone fractures, or how to prevent misbehavior, such as hysteria and/or pecking. The sooner action is taken and problems are tackled, the bigger the effect. Chicken Compass is a management-tool and supports the farmer and his/her hens in optimizing its welfare.
