Fair Poultry participates in a large EU-funded Project, that anticipates on the transition of enriched cages to alternative housing systems in Europa. In The Netherlands and Germany, less and less hens are kept in enriched cages, but in countries, such as Poland, Spain, Portugal and Belgium the majority of the hen’s population is still kept in enriched cages.

The practical knowledge that is needed for this transition, will be gathered and translated into practice within this Project. Our participation, firstly, entails brainstorming on which welfare and veterinary challenges will be faced during this transition in practice. And secondly, in the final phases of the Project, to handle challenges of these transitions in the countries itself and to offer practical solutions on site.
